Beaver features rockabilly guitar whiz Tuesday

Thirsty Beaver Saloon (1225 Central Ave.) will open Tuesday for a special performance by revered rockabilly guitarist Deke Dickerson. The free show features Social Distortion bassist Brent Harding and Chris "Sugarballs" Sprauge of the band the 18 Wheelers rounding out the trio. Dickerson is known for impressively ripping through rockabilly, surf, western swing, and old time rock n' roll on double, sometimes triple, or even quadruple (pictured) neck guitars.

Though known for those astounding six and twelve string skills, he is also a subtle player choosing not-just-showy solos but fluttery fretwork that fits each song. He amply demonstrates this on his latest release, the soundtrack to 'The Wild Wonderful Whites of West Virginia" documentary (which isn't as wild as the film's subjects). Dickerson's past bands include the Untamed Youth, Go-Nuts, and his best known combo Deke & Dave.

Dickerson is also a producer, collector, and regular contributor to "Guitar Player" and "Vintage Guitar" magazines. The concert is free. 8 p.m. For more information go here.
